Lauderhill Police Department is Reaccredited

The Commission on Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation recently notified the City of Lauderhill Police Department that they have met the required standards and has be reaccredited for another 3 year period.

The City of Lauderhill has received the “2014 Hermes Gold Winner Award” for Overall Government Website Design from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP).

Hermes Creative Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. This international organization consists of several thousand marketing, communication, advertising, public relations, media production, and website professionals. The Association oversees awards and recognition programs, provides judges and sets standards for excellence.

The Hermes Creative Award competition is highly respected in the industry and has grown to one of the largest of its kind in the world. A look at the winners varies from individual communicators to media conglomerates and Fortune 500 companies.

The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) began in 1995 as a means to honor outstanding achievement and service to communication professionals. As part of its mission, AMCP fosters and supports the efforts of marketing and communication professionals who contribute their unique talents to public service and charitable organizations. ORDINANCE NO. 14O-05-120:  TO ADD COMMUNITY GARDEN, HOME GARDEN AND HORTICULTURE (REQUESTED BY COMMISSIONER KEN THURSTON).

ORDINANCE NO: 14O-06-130:  CREATING A TIER SYSTEM REGARDING THE CITY’S LOCAL VENDOR PREFERENCE POLICY (REQUESTED BY COMMISSIONER HAYWARD J. BENSON, JR.).  Passed 3-1 with Commissioner Berger Voted Against.

Drainage and Sidewalk Installation along Northwest 19 Street in Lauderhill

Construction period is July 21 to August 7 -

A new drainage system and sidewalk along the south side of NW 19th Street in front of the Continental Apartments in Lauderhill, from July 21 through August 7, barring unforeseen conditions or weather delays.  The project involves the installation of new catch basins, drainage pipe and sidewalk.

The public should be aware of the following:

• Flaggers will be stationed on each side of the project boundaries to direct east and westbound traffic on NW 19th Street when necessary.
• Access to the west side of the apartment complex will be limited for a short time.
• Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times using the existing sidewalks on the north side of NW 19th Street.

Lauderhill Officials Say Goodbye to Temporary Fire House & Break Ground on a New Permanent Fire Station

The addition of Fire Station #110 in 2006 followed the City of Lauderhill’s annexation of the St. George, West Ken Lark and Broward Estates Communities. The City’s Fire Department has been operating out of a temporary facility located at 3120 NW 12 Place since that time.

 

On Thursday, July 17^th at 10 am, the City’s Officials along with the Fire Department Staff and the residents of the City of Lauderhill will break ground for a new state of the art Fire Station to be located at the same address as the temporary facility.

 

The new 16,600 square foot permanent facility was designed and will be built to meet the LEED Silver standards. The LEED Silver criterion meets the City’s ordinance requiring all newly constructed City buildings to be environmentally friendly.

 

Fire Station #110 will include three fire truck bays, the living quarters for fire rescue staff, a kitchen, a dayroom, an exercise room, separate restroom/shower facilities for both male and females, offices, storage rooms, a stand-by emergency generator, a police sub-station, and a medical triage room on the first floor.

 

The second floor will include a multi-purpose room and serve as the City’s back-up Emergency Operations Center - as Fire Station #57 serves as the primary. The parking lot will eventually be located where the temporary facility is currently located and will include an above the ground diesel fueling station. Finally, an emergency traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Northwest 12^th Place and Northwest 31^st Avenue to safely allow the emergency trucks to enter onto NW 31^st Avenue.

 

The transition from the temporary building into the new one will be seamless and Fire Station #110’s service will not be interrupted.

Lauderhill Has an Election for Commissioner in November

Though Mayor Richard Kaplan had no opposition in the Mayor's race in November, and was therefore automatically elected to another term, 4 people have registered to run for Commissioner Seat 4.  Therefore the City of Lauderhill will be holding an election for that seat.

The City of Lauderhill’s Finance Department Receives the Highly Coveted, Distinguished Budget Award… Again

The City of Lauderhill’s Finance Department has been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” for the Fiscal Year Budget of 2014. 

The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. The Association is a professional association that serves 18,000 finance government professionals in North America.  

The GFOA explains that in order to receive this prestigious award the municipality had to, “… satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation…. [in] how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.”

“The City of Lauderhill is no stranger to be honored by the GFOA. Most recently, we have received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for our budget in the fiscal years 2010, 2011, 2013 and now 2014! We should all be proud of the fantastic work our Finance Department is doing. This is the highest honor a government can receive for its budget preparation and presentation and gives confidence to our residents that the City is properly handling taxpayer dollars,” explains Mayor Richard J. Kaplan.
