I-595 Temporary Ramp Closures Information

Crews along the I-595 mainline and S.R. 84 began work in February 2010 and have focused their efforts on widening the corridor to create a work zone where they can construct new, improved ramps. While crews work in the limited space between I-595 and S.R. 84, it will be necessary to close some of the existing ramps. Beginning on July 5 at 10 p.m., crews will close the following ramps to complete their work on the new ramps: The on-ramp from westbound S.R. 84 to westbound I-595 west of Pine Island Road The off-ramp from westbound I-595 to westbound S.R. 84 at exit 3 Nob Hill Road The two ramps will be closed simultaneously for approximately 135 days. These ramp closures are scheduled to begin in July 2011 and the new westbound ramps for Pine Island Road will be opened in late fall 2011. Long term ramp closures throughout the course of the project will vary in duration from 20 consecutive days to 220 consecutive days (depending on the ramp). The first long term ramp closures will occur between Pine Island Road and Nob Hill Road in the westbound direction to construct a pair of braided ramps. Braided ramps are a set of two consecutive ramps that separate motorists who are entering and exiting the highway at the same crossroad (motorists exiting the highway travel on a bridge over the motorists entering the highway). This type of ramp eliminates the merge condition that currently exists between I-595 and S.R. 84. By eliminating the merge condition that exists at these ramps, the operation of the interstate will be dramatically improved. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this activity.
