The American Red Cross continued its Home Fire Preparedness Campaign in Lauderhill and across the country. The campaign aims to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires by as much as 25% over the next five years. The campaign focuses on increasing the use of smoke alarms in neighborhoods with high numbers of home fires. Red Cross volunteers with help from Lauderhill Fire-Rescue and the Lauderhill Police Department canvassed an estimated 200 homes installing 48 smoke alarms and changed 15 smoke alarm batteries.
