Well I got it partially correct. As many others believed, the Dolphins would trade down their 1st round pick. They got a late 1st round pick, plus picked up the 40th pick in the 2nd round. They had to give up a 6th round pick, flip their 4th round picks, but they picked up a ILB, which was needed. So, all in all, a good trade.
They also could have picked OLB Jerry Hughes, as I predicted, but Bill just wouldn't listen to me. Instead they got DT Jared Odrick. While Odrick is a very good player, it is just very unclear what position he will play. He's between Nose Tackle and Defensive End. I'm not sure how good he might work in the 3-4 defense. Curiously, it's almost like the Dolphins are reverting/drafting back to the 4-3 defense. Now that would be the shocker of the draft because they would then have the players to do it.
On the assumption they stay with the 3-4, where do they go from here. The 2nd and 3rd rounds are critical, with a lot of possible choices. A lot may be whats available. They like to double down at positions, so they may go next with a NT, or they may go with a OLB in the 2nd round. Somewhere they need a Free Safety. I think a lot of it will be who is rated higher at that point, and let the draft fall out where it does.
So rather than predict who at each slot, I decided to list the possible selections they could be looking at in the next two rounds, and in what round they may find that person:
#1 OLB Sergio Kindle -2
#2 OLB Koa Misi -2
#3 OLB Jason Worilds -3
#4 OLB Ricky Sapp -3
#5 OLB Daryl Washington -3
#1 NT Cam Thomas -2
#2 NTLinval Joseph - 2/3
#3 NT Torrell Troup -3
#1 FS Major Wright - 3 if not available then TE Graham or Dickerson
So let the games continue.
