Lauderhill Police Department Wins National Award

The Lauderhill Police Department won first place in their category, for it's traffic initiatives in the City. This award was given by the International Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Challenge. This is the first time a Florida municipal agency has ever won this award.

I worked every day immediately following Hurricane Wilma and returned to Lauderhill during morning rush. My commute took me from Pompano through Coconut Creek, Margate, North Lauderdale, Lauderdale Lakes, and finally, to Lauderhill. There were zero traffic lights and, altho there were police at major intersections they were sitting in or on their cars and made to attempt whatever to direct traffic. The result was bedlam. The ONLY place where police were actually doing something to assist with traffic was Lauderhill. One officer which seemed to stand out was, I believe, named Delmontico. My spelling is likely wrong but it has to be close. Just thought you'd want to know.

What was the award that was won? Who applies for these awards and how many other such awards have been won by Lauderhill PD?
