Notes of Regular Commission Meeting of January 13

On January 13, the City Commission held its regular Commission Meeting, and the following are notes of interest (all items passed unanimously):

PROCLAMATIONS / COMMENDATIONS:

A. PROCLAMATION PROCLAMING JANUARY 13, 2014 AS LCpl JANOS V LUTZ PTSD AWARENESS DAY IN THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL.

B. PROCLAMATION PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF JANUARY 2014 AS BROWARD COUNTY DIVERSITY COMMUNITY MONTH IN THE CITY OF LAUDERHILL.

ORDINANCES & PUBLIC HEARINGS - FIRST READING:

ORDINANCE NO: 14O-01-101:   AMENDING THE ORDER OF BUSINESS (REQUESTED BY MAYOR RICHARD J. KAPLAN).

ORDINANCES & PUBLIC HEARINGS - SECOND READING:

ORDINANCE NO: 13O-12-159:   AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 14, OFFENSES AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS, ARTICLE VI, SOLICITORS AND PEDDLERS, DIVISION 1, STREET SOLICITATION; CREATING SECTION 14-100.1, RIGHT-OF- WAY SOLICITORS, PEDDLERS AND CANVASSERS; PROHIBITING SOLICITATION WITHIN SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATED ROADWAYS AND INTERSECTIONS IN THE INTEREST OF HEALTH AND SAFETY;  (REQUESTED BY MAYOR RICHARD J. KAPLAN).

RESOLUTIONS:

RESOLUTION NO. 14R-01-11:   APPROVING THE PARTNERSHIP WITH INNOVATIONS FOR LEARNING (IFL) TO SUPPORT THE TUTORMATE PILOT PROGRAM AT ENDEAVOUR PRIMARY LEARNING CENTER; APPROVING THE DONATION OF THE $1,000.00 SPONSORSHIP FEE TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM FOR ONE FIRST GRADE CLASS TO BE TUTORED IN READING; AUTHORIZING EMPLOYEES TO VOLUNTEER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM FOR 30-MINUTES PER WEEK DURING PAID BUSINESS HOURS DURING THE 2013/2014 SCHOOL YEAR;  (REQUESTED BY COMMISSIONER HAYWARD J. BENSON, JR.).
