Please attend the Redevelopment Plan Update regarding State Road 7 (441) in Lauderhill – Central Broward. Join City and County officials, developers, and business owners at 9:45 am, Saturday, April 28th, at St. George Park, (3501 NW 8th Street), to discuss plans for Lauderhill’s redevelopment plans on the State Road 7 (441) corridor.
Presentations will include: Carishoca (Amera Inc.), The Lauderhill City Center (Lauderhill Mall), All Americas Cultural Mall (for Cultural Diversity), The Bobby Jones Gospel Center, Lauderhill Chamber of Commerce, Georgetown Town Homes (Centerline Homes), Saint James Town Homes (United Homes), Phil Smith Chevrolet, Millennium Inc. (a business development organization) , and National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators, and Developers (NABHOOD).

Though this comment has nothing to do with State Road 7, it was written about in the Brief Comment article before. The Villas has been ordered by the Unsafe Structures Board to be closed. All residents were ordered to leave. I believe that 2 residents have refused to leave.
The premises are ordered to be repaired fully, or ultimately will be ordered demolished. The writer is correct about the conditions at The Villas, and the city is taking action to remedy it. The reason it has taken the city this time to get this far is because of the legal requirements under the law in protecting the property owners rights.
These rights are created by the Legislature who has valued property rights over living conditions. Lauderhill has moved as fast as we legally can to address this situation, and finally this matter is moving forward to resolution.
If anyone was in attendance at the Unsafe Structures Board hearing on this matter, I believe an observer would have sat there in amazement on how poorly the property owner handled the situation, and how they have tried to stall fixing the problems at this site.
Would you care to comment, Mayor Kaplan, on why Royal Oaks on 55th has joined a very long list of communities in this area south of Oakland Park which has been ordered evacuated? Are we to believe that all these many, many buildings failed to meet code? Why wasn't management given citations and a timetable in which to make repairs? And if the repairs aren't made, then what? Are we to believe that many of the buildings on 55th and 56th will be demolished? What is it, Mayor Kaplan, do you propose for the area's future? Please clue us in lest we come to believe that Lauderhill has some type of Nero complex. These questions will also appear on the web independent of this blog....
I waited a little bit on this last comment, because I needed to research the question. The response I got was what I expected. There are no orders to evacuate Royal Oak Townhomes. I do not know where this came from, or what it may be referencing.
There may be orders to institute repairs, or resolve code violations, but that is something else entirely. To that I have not received any information to pass on.
As to other premises in the area, I again do not know what is being referenced. Therefore, no further comment can be made. If a specific situation is reasonably posed, I can research and repsond.
