All campers must be at camp no later than 8:45 A.M. Morning activities begin at 9:00 A.M. SHARP!

PROGRAM: ASP has created a summer camp program filled with safety and fun! Our schedule also includes weekly swimming twice a week, cultural arts activities and field trips weekly. Favorite camp activities also include arts and crafts, music, sports, dance, drama and special events such as talent shows and field day. ASP’s summer program includes fun activities geared to the uniqueness of each child. Campers are bound to have a summer filled with great memories that will build friendships, and promote high self-esteem, creativity and healthy physical activity.

GROUPS/STAFF/SUPERVISION: Campers are supervised by our experienced and qualified camp directors and counselors. All staff members have been fingerprinted and background screened. They also meet the educational and medical requirements set forth by law. Our low staff to child ratio is lower than the ratio required by law. This ensures safer supervision and allows our staff members to be more responsive and nurturing to the campers in their care.

TUITION: Summer camp tuition will be collected on a bi-weekly basis. Your first payment of $160.00 (residents) or $200.00 (non-residents) is due at registration.

PAYMENT POLICY & PROCEDURES: All payments will be collected IN ADVANCE, each Friday for the upcoming 2 week session. Payment may be made by check or money order only. Cash will not be accepted and there are no refunds. If payment is not made by the first day of the new session, a $20.00 late fee will be added to your bi-weekly tuition.

OPTIONAL FIELD TRIPS: Especially designed for our campers going into 4th grade & up. The prices listed are in addition to the regular day price. The Rapids Water Park ~ $35.00 on Thursday, June 28th Busch Gardens ~ $65.00 on Thursday, August 2nd

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE: Camper must arrive no later than 8:45 A.M. for attendance. To ensure your child’s safety, your child must be walked into camp & signed in. Parents and/or guardians must sign out their child at the end of the camp day. Campers will not be released to anyone that is not listed on the registration form. Identification will be checked to verify the pick-up person. A telephone call where you may be asked to identify yourself using a password must be made to allow us to release the camper to a person not on the registration forms. This is for the safety of our campers and will be strictly enforced.

LUNCH: Lunch is provided daily.

SWIMMING: If swimming is indicated on the schedule, please send your child to camp with their bathing suit, a change of clothing and a towel in their bag. We encourage campers who burn easily to wear a hat in the water and to bring extra sunscreen, and reapply it throughout the day. Our camp staff also has sunscreen available and will assist campers in applying it prior and during swimming activities.

CAMP DRESS: Please send your child dressed appropriately for all camp activities and weather. We recommend that warm clothing be sent for ice-skating and that children wear closed shoes for their comfort and mobility. For security reasons, camp T-shirts must be worn where indicated on the schedule. If your child does not wear a T-shirt, one will be provided at an additional charge.

ACTIVITIES: Please check your camp schedule daily. Please note any extra items needed for each trip. All activities are included in your child’s tuition. However campers are permitted to bring money on most field trip days, but only to purchase drinks & snacks, and extra tokens or activities on arcade days. ASP staff members are not permitted to hold camper’s money. We reserve the right to change the schedule due to weather or unforeseeable circumstances.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS: Campers may bring a camp bag to carry their personal belongings on field trips. Please LABEL ALL of your child’s belongings (especially their camp t-shirts). There will be a lost and found at each camp program. ASP will not be responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items.

DISCIPLINE: Our goal is to provide a quality summer camp program. Our professional childcare staff is trained in behavior techniques that include positive reinforcement, redirection and conflict resolution. If a camper with a consistent behavior problem persists, a parent/guardian conference may be scheduled at which the areas of concern will be discussed and the steps which will be taken to help improve your campers behavior. If the situation does not improve, the camper may be suspended or dismissed from camp.

ILLNESS/MEDICATION: Should a child become ill while at camp, parents will be notified to pick up their camper from the activity. A medication release form needs to be filled out by the parent and/or guardian in order for ASP to dispense medication. Medication must be stored in the original container. Medication forms may be picked up from your Camp Director.

TRANSPORTATION: Campers travel to all field trips on our regulation size school buses. When picking up or dropping off your camper, please do not block the bus parking area.

EARLY PICK-UP: If you wish to pick up your child early from an activity, please call our office to ensure that there have been no changes in our schedule, due to the weather or any other unforeseen circumstances.

LATE PICK UP: $5.00 per camper for every 15 minutes or part of, after 6:00p.m. Three late pickups may result in your camper being dropped from our enrollment.

RETURN CHECK POLICY: In the event of a returned check, a $25.00 fee will be charged to your account. We will require a MONEY ORDER for the total of the check plus the $25.00 fee by the following business day. All subsequent payments must be made by money order only.

Florida East Coast Industries, Inc. Announces Plans for Private Passenger Rail Service in Florida

Nation’s First of its Kind - Privately Owned and Operated System Will Connect Florida’s Largest Cities

Florida East Coast Industries, Inc. (FECI), the owner of Florida’s premier passenger rail corridor, is developing a privately owned, operated and maintained passenger rail service to connect South Florida and Orlando, which will be operational in 2014. By connecting the most visited city in the United States with South Florida’s business and vacation destinations, the passenger rail project, called All Aboard Florida, is designed to serve Florida’s growing number of business travelers, as well as families and tourists traveling for pleasure.

The All Aboard Florida passenger rail project will connect South Florida to Orlando through a 240‐mile route combining 200 miles of existing tracks between Miami and Cocoa and the creation of 40 miles of new track to complete the route to Orlando. Eventually the system could be expanded with connections to Tampa and Jacksonville.

More than fifty million people travel between South and Central Florida annually, largely over highly congested highways. All Aboard Florida is envisioned to transform the way people travel throughout the state, offering a faster, safer, and more enjoyable mode of transportation between Florida’s two largest metropolitan areas.

Targeted to begin service in 2014, the approximately $1 billion project will operate on a regular schedule throughout the day transporting business and leisure passengers between South Florida and Orlando in approximately three hours. This new, convenient, affordable, fast and environmentally friendly intercity passenger rail service is expected to:

(1) CREATE JOBS AND GROW FLORIDA’S ECONOMY—approximately 6,000 direct jobs will be needed to construct the system and over 1,000 more jobs to operate and maintain it; new economic development opportunities also will be created for communities along the route;

(2) PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT—the service will take millions of vehicles off Florida’s roadways, resulting in a reduction in auto emissions and allowing for a far more fuel efficient alternative to the automobile at this time of escalating gas prices;

(3) ENSURE SPEED AND RELIABILITY—travel time between regions will be approximately three hours and train service will be frequent throughout the day;

(4) PROTECT EXISTING FREIGHT CAPACITY—the new passenger service will not affect freight capacity in the rail corridor, thereby supporting Florida’s role in international commerce and allowing more intermodal freight movements.

By adding an entirely new travel choice, the All Aboard Florida passenger rail service will provide a high‐quality experience for travelers. The system will include business‐ and coach‐class service with advance purchase reserved seating, gourmet meals, Wi‐Fi, and the ability to work productively throughout the entire trip. In addition, stations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Orlando mean convenient transfers to Metrorail, Metromover or SunRail, allowing passengers to reach their final destination.

FECI began a feasibility analysis for the project several months ago. Additionally, an investment grade ridership study and engineering work to design the system are underway. Today’s announcement marks the beginning of working in depth with local, state and federal officials, as well as the communities along the route.

Lauderhill Police Memorial Service

On Wednesday, May 9 at 10 am, the City of Lauderhill will be holding a Police Memorial Ceremony at the Lauderhill Police Station, on Oakland Park Blvd.

This event is to commemorate all officers who have been cut down in the line of duty throughout the United States. It is open to all.

Recently, Larkdale Elementary 2nd graders went on a field trip to Lauderhill City Hall to learn more about their government. Commissioner Ken Thurston arranged for the trip, and besides hearing from a few speakers and taking questions, the students were given a tour of the building.

Automatic Aid Agreements Reached with Tamarac and Sunrise

On March 26, the City Commission met and agreed to enter into Automatic Aid Agreements with the City of Tamarac and Sunrise. The agreement provides that any of the 3 cities will respond to emergencies in the other cities whenever required as if they are part of one fire department.

It should speed up the time of response by the nearest available unit, which improves the service to all residents in the area.

Cricket Anyone?

It has been announced that two Twenty/20 Internationals will be played on New Zealand’s tour of the Caribbean later this year against the West Indies.

A source close to the West Indies Cricket Board confirmed to CMC Sports that the two T20Is, scheduled for June 30 and July 1, will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.

In recent years, New Zealand Cricket have been keen on exploring the US market and played two T20s against Sri Lanka at the venue in 2010.

The matches will also provide the opportunity for the large West Indian community residing in the south-eastern American state to get a taste of international cricket with representatives of their home countries.

Following these matches, West Indies and New Zealand will return to the Caribbean to play five One-Day Internationals and two Test Matches from July 5 to August 6.

The students’ art will be evaluated and scored based on originality, creativity, and technical quality. Cash prizes provided by BankAtlantic will be awarded to the winners of the contest. Police Department Report on Crime Statistics 2011

At the city's recent Annual Retreat, the Police Department gave the following report:

Recently reported crime statistics was reported for the year 2011 in the City of Lauderhill. Crime did go up 19% for violent crimes and down 16% for non-violent crimes. Overall there was a 6% overall increase for 2011. This follows several consecutive years of decline and is consistent to other jurisdictions in the area.

During 2011 the police responded to 75, 188 calls.

At this time Lauderhill has authorized 120 sworn officers but presently have only filled 113 of those positions. Due to normal attrition, it is extremely difficult to achieve 120 officers at a time.

The city maintains 51 police vehicles, and the Citizens Police Academy has 17 residents enrolled for the 10 week program.

Grant Writing Seminar in Lauderhill

On Wednesday, March 14, 2012, City of Lauderhill Commissioner Ken Thurston will host a Grant Writing Seminar at Lauderhill City Hall from 12 noon – 1:30 pm.

Attendees will learn how to write grants for their organization, and the Seminar will be led by the City of Lauderhill’s own Grant Manager, Jane Sullivan. She will give tips on how to find grants, effectively write them, and stay in compliance with their terms and conditions. Her experience in grant writing is vast and very successful. Her session will also include a question and answer period.

"Many civic organizations and non profits are actively seeking funds in a pool of resources that is shrinking. At this seminar, we can provide tips on how to have a competitive edge and write more effective grants,” states the program organizer, Commissioner Ken Thurston.

Windermere / Tree Gardens Safe Neighborhood District Construction

A Letter from the City Managers Office:

Dear Resident,

Beginning on Tuesday, February 28th, 2012, construction and road work for the Windermere / Tree Gardens Safe Neighborhood District Project will begin. The construction will require the closure of the entrance on 18th Ave and the entrance into Tree Garden. This is required to build a new entrance way into both communities. The temporary entrance into the Windermere and Tree Gardens Communities will be located on NW 19th St. and NW 52nd Ave. Electronic message boards will also notify the residents and visitors of the road closures and the new temporary entrance.

The BIG Read

On February 18, 2 PM, at the Lauderhill Towne Centre Library, 6399W. Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderhill, the BIG Read celebration will be held.

It's a Harlem Renaissance Family affair.

Enjoy Live Jazz music by The Nicole Yarling 4-tet, dancing by The Jubilee Dance Theatre, dramatic readings and poetry. The first 50 families will receive a free book.
